Behind the Scenes: What Do Dogs Do All Day During Boarding?

October 6, 2020by kennelclublax

Do you need a safe and affordable place for your pet to stay while you’re working? Or maybe you’re planning a trip and need a safe place for your beloved pooch to stay? You want them to be loved and pampered just like they would be with you — we understand completely.

As much as you hate leaving your pet with a stranger, sometimes you don’t have much choice. You’re understandably worried and anxious about leaving them in someone else’s care. We know questions can haunt you when you have to leave your dog with someone else and you can’t focus on relaxation or work until you know they’re safe.

  • How do I know my best friend won’t be left alone in a kennel, frightened and ignored?
  • Can I trust that they’ll get exercise and attention?
  • Will they be fed correctly per their feeding schedule?
  • Will someone remember to give them their medication according to the veterinarian’s orders?
  • What about in the evening hours? Is someone onsite caring for them then? Or are they alone until someone arrives the next morning?

These are all common questions every responsible pet owner has when they look for a doggie daycare or board facility — and you deserve to have your questions answered. Your pets deserve great love and care while you are gone.

We’re one of the best doggie daycares in LA and we want to help you make the best decision for your dog to keep them happy and healthy. Keep reading to learn how to choose the best option for your pet!

Boarding Kennel vs. Vet Clinic: Pros and Cons

When evaluating your doggie daycare and boarding facility options, you may consider boarding your pet with your vet if they offer this service. In some instances, boarding with your vet may be a better option if your pet is sick or has a chronic disease that requires special care.

However, in most cases, if your pet is healthy and doesn’t need special care, they will be happier in a boarding kennel like ours vs. confined to the more limited accommodations your vet may have.

Our establishment offers an advanced air exchange system that keeps your pooch in a fresh, clean, and temperature-controlled environment. When it comes to cleaning protocols, we use a cleaning and flushing system that helps create and maintain the most sanitary conditions possible.

A vet typically closes their office in the evening and your pet will be alone overnight until they come back in the morning. We are open 24/7, so we have a night attendant on the premises to make sure your pets are always comfortable and safe and are never alone. Plus, we have around-the-clock access to on-call veterinarians in the event of an emergency.

Boarding Kennel Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Your pets  receive more one-on-one attention from staff. Although we have a night attendant and 24/7 access to a veterinarian, you may decide your vet is a better idea if your pet requires constant monitoring, special care, and medications that need more supervision.
They get lots of time to play and exercise in specialty-designed play yards.
We are equipped to offer your pet fun activities such as swimming in the pool or playing outside with an attendant.
We can more easily accommodate multiple pets staying in the same kennel together.
We’re open 24/7, so you can call and check up on your fur-babies at any time and get photo or video updates too.

Vet Clinic Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
They have all staff and equipment needed to respond to medical emergencies if your pet has a chronic health condition.  Vets and their staff are too busy handling patients to provide the same amount of attention and exercise time that a doggie daycare can.
They have strict protocols for administering medications on time and at the correct dosage amounts. Your pet has minimal accommodations with no access to pools or scheduled playtime with other pets.
Potty breaks are short and rushed because technicians have less time to care for all their patients and borders.
It’s not as easy to allow multiple pets to stay together because the runs and kennels are generally too small.
Vets don’t have a 3rd shift attendant. They close and go home, so your pet spends most of the evening alone.
Increased stress in pets because they associate visiting the vet with sickness, injuries, shots, etc.
Your pet could possibly catch an illness from a dog receiving treatment at the office.

Kennel Club LAX All Day Boarding Schedule for Social Dogs

Two dogs playing in pool

Is your dog a social butterfly that enjoys spending time frolicking and playing outside with other pups? Then they would be a perfect fit for our social dog boarding schedule. While boarding, your dog will spend 6 to 7 hours outside every day.

Let’s take a look at what a day at our kennel will be like for your social dog, through their eyes…

AM

I got fed around 6 am then taken out for a potty break and playtime with my friends. I spent all day in the large play yard with all lots of friends, things to climb on, and pools to swim in. I took a dip when I got hot and then took a snooze beneath a shady tree.

When I woke up, I went back to running around, playing with my furry friends and two-legged ones. The two-legged ones told me how cute I am and that I’m such a good boy. By dinnertime, I couldn’t wait to eat because I was starving from all the fun I had.

PM

After dinner, I relaxed inside for a bit in the air conditioning because it’s hot in LA. I then went outside again in the evening for another potty break and playtime with more two-legged friends.

They don’t get tired of playing with me, and they laugh when I give them my best smile to show how happy I am. I also love the treats I get — they sure are tasty! I miss my parents when I’m not with them, but everyone is so nice here that it is easier to be away from them, especially when I get bedtime cuddles.

Optional Activities For Your Social Dog

We also offer several optional activities that you can choose from for your beloved pooch.

  • Funzone (All Day Group Play)
  • 1-hour group play (Jamboree)
  • Pool time (Splash Time in Our Pool)
  • Evening Potty Break (Outdoors)
  • Busy Bone (Peanut Butter & Cookie-Filled Kong)
  • Treat of the Month (Scrumptious Treat)

Kennel Club LAX All Day Boarding Schedule for Non-Social Dogs

Black and white dog chasing ball by play structure

Is your dog great with people — but not so great with other canines? We offer three different private accommodations that’ll keep your pup calm and happy, as well as a unique boarding schedule just for them.

Let’s see what a day would be like for your non-social pet, from their perspective…

AM

I got fed around 7:30 am, and then I took a morning walk with a human friend. I got to be outside to walk around and play while my room got freshened up for me. I got to play one-on-one with my two-legged friend, which was nice.

I love humans, but I don’t like other dogs so much. I know they’re here, but I don’t want to meet them. I was able to play without feeling scared or stressed. I enjoyed my time outside, and when I got tired, I took a snooze. Did I mention I also got a treat for Yappy Hour? Eventually, I went back inside to rest in the air conditioning.

PM

In the afternoon, I went out for another potty break and played some more. I sniffed a lot too because there’s always something new to smell when I go outside. It’s always an adventure!

Later on, I got some dinner around 6 pm and then went out for another potty break around 8pm. I got some cuddles when I went back inside. It’s scary not having my parents with me, but everyone here is so nice, and they make me feel special.

Optional Activities For Your Non-Social Dog

We also offer several optional activities that you can choose from for your beloved pooch.

  • Pool time (Splash Time in Our Pool)
  • Picnic in the Park (Individual Park Time)
  • Wagtime (Personal Attention and Play)
  • Busy Bone (Peanut Butter & Cookie-Filled Kong)
  • Treat of the Month (Scrumptious Treat)

“The Kennel Club has been a Godsend and a lifesaver. I could not have my little girl without them. She feels safe and right at home with Kennel Club LAX as though they are family, and that’s because that’s how they treat her. She doesn’t mind coming to visit. In fact, as we round the corner, she gets very excited. She is always happy to see all of the staff at the Kennel Club and must say goodbye to EVERYONE every day before she leaves. I know the Kennel Club loves her, and I love the Kennel Club, and they take such wonderful care of her, whether it’s daycare or boarding. The Kennel Club is highly recommended by me.”Arlene Mitchell
